About Young Gun Retrievers

Established in 2017, Young Gun Retrievers is a family-owned and operated retriever training program located in Greenville, North Carolina. We specialize in developing high-quality gundogs and competition retrievers competing in AKC and UKC hunt tests, with our training standards aligned with the expectations of both organizations.

Our ultimate goal is simple: Bring out the absolute best qualities each dog has to offer and prepare them for whatever they may encounter in the field.

We believe there is no one-size-fits-all approach to training a retriever. Every dog is different. They learn differently, respond differently, and have different strengths and weaknesses. Because of that, we customize and shape a training program around each individual dog. We do not make the dog fit our program—we make the program fit the dog.

Just as importantly, we believe the handler is part of the equation. Owners are always welcome to come watch their dog train, ask questions, and learn alongside us. In fact, we strongly encourage it. The more an owner understands their dog and the training process, the stronger the relationship becomes. That time spent together builds chemistry, trust, communication, and understanding between dog and handler. And when those pieces come together, the result is a team that performs better in the field.

At Young Gun Retrievers, we're not simply trying to teach a dog how to retrieve a bird. We're developing confident, capable retrievers and knowledgeable handlers who can work together as a team.
